This study aims to analyze the obstacles faced in Indonesian literature learning at SMA Swasta Prayatna Medan and their impact on the teaching approach and student interest. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques for data collection. The subjects of the study include the Indonesian language teacher and students at SMA Prayatna Medan. The findings indicate that the teaching approaches used by the teacher, such as lectures, question-and-answer sessions, and group discussions, create an interactive learning environment. However, the main obstacle identified is the difficulty students face in analyzing literary works, particularly due to the complex language and figurative expressions used in literary texts. Despite this, the teacher attempts to address these challenges by re-explaining the material and utilizing additional media, such as videos and recorded poetry readings. Student perceptions of Indonesian literature learning are generally positive, especially when the material taught is relevant to their daily lives. The findings suggest that while there are obstacles in literature learning, the adaptive approach of the teacher and the relevance of the material to everyday life can increase student interest. This study emphasizes the importance of developing more varied teaching methods and reading interest programs to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of Indonesian literature.
